Having a clearly defined approach and outline for how you will work with new families will only succeed if everyone is doing the same thing and taking the same approach. This is going to help new families to understand your role and how they can work with you.
Having a consistent approach can avoid confusion, disappointment and will empower refugees to make their own choices and enable them to feel ownership of their own lives. It is also going to assist us greatly in working together as a group.
There will be times when consistency is crucial. For example, if the family who have been resettled with you ask about family reunification, we need to reply with the same answer. (see info on this)
It is important to bear in mind that we are not expected to be able to solve every problem that the family we support may encounter. Our role is to help them understand the problem and contact the relevant people or services for advice.
